What are the lawyer assistance services that bar associations offer? |

The New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York have full-time professionals on staff who provide confidential assistance to attorneys, judges, law students and their families who are affected by alcohol, drugs, stress and depression. Ten county bar associations have volunteer committees who provide peer assistance. Information about who the contact persons are may be found on our "Resources" page. |

Does the Lawyer Assistance Trust perform drug and alcohol assessments, interventions and referrals to treatment? |

No. the LAT does not directly provide these services. The LAT will, however, refer such inquiries to appropriate professionals at State or local lawyer assistance committees. |

Will the LAT furnish speakers to my legal organization to address issues of substance abuse in the profession? |

Yes. One of the primary functions of the LAT is educational. The Trustees of the LAT are committed to making presentations whenever and wherever requested. |
